p.s. The exhibition is ever changing as the 25 modular platforms could be rotated and moved about as how the user would want the exhibition to look.(Terry)

Reflection Piece: Thinking Thursdays

For my Thinking Thursday reflection piece I decided to create a fold out brochure about Melbourne’s graffiti culture. Hope you guys like it. Sorry if the photos are a bit blur, took em with my iphone lol.

Cultural Probe: Shape and Form

I was looking at the Shape and Form: back to basics mood board and was trying to come up with ways to push the idea. I liked the word “Parallax”, which is the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions. I think this word can suggest a lot of different things such as the way we perceive things (such as art) and how basic shapes, color and form can be easily manipulated to create something complex and interesting. We perceive things differently from one another and that’s what makes each individual unique.I think this idea can be pushed to create an interesting identity for the Cultural Probe and also for the packaging.

Some ideas that I want to explore are: Optical illusions, shapes, form, lighting, colours, layers, negative space, psychedelic art, pixel art.

Here’s a fast mood board I put together last night:

Will get feedback from you guys tomorrow.

Cultural Probe: Names that we’re keen on

So, we had a little discussion on Friday and came up with 3 names that we thought could represent Cultural Probe: Props, Unstrung, Inside Out. And we wanted them to have the feel of our “pass the parcel”, “bento box”, “diy” moodboard, mixing it up with the shoe-box idea.

We are in the midst of smashing out the very first draft of design outcomes/styles and what nots. And here is a little preview of what I’ve done over the weekends:

Unstrung: Strings forming the word, while connecting with each circle. The circle represents each discipline of design.

Unstrung: Inspired by thin straight lines(that represents rigid strings)

Unstrung: Still loving the "Back to basics" idea! (Just thought I'll do one for old time sake.)

Props: A very sketchy draft on the strings idea, strings forming the word props. Inspired by how different areas of design still connects with one another.

Inside Out: Just a really plain & simple logotype.

So, watch out for this space as we will update more on our Cultural Probe’s progress.

Cultural Probe; brainstorming session

I have a knack for posting after 12am haha. Anyway a few posts back we did a brainstorming exercise for our thinking thursday. Today we decided to play it again, this time to churn out cultural probe names. We each wrote a sentence onย  how we would describe the cultural probe project. Here are the results:

Bec's

Terry's

Mine

Steph's

Geraldine's (I just realised I scanned one of them upside down lol)

So far the word ‘PROPS’ has really stood out as it is playful, describes the tools in the probe and is short and sweet. When we think of more probe names we’ll post it up here!
